In the great state of Texas, nothing slows us down. August brings back some exciting events that all locals look forward to. Check out these ideas and let's make new friends while we're at it.

Unplugged At the Grove | August 13th at Shady Grove

Let's cheers to 93.3 KGSR's 25th Anniversary! Who can pass on free live music? This happens to be one of the hottest events in town with absolutely no cover charge. Every Thursday for 23 consecutive weeks, you'll find some local talent while dining under the tree canopy on warm summer nights. Shady Grove welcomes all ages and $4 Ziegenbocks for those over 21. Sound & Cinema | August 15th at The Long Center

Grab your family and friends and head to the Long Center for an evening of live music, food trucks and cinema. Alamo Drafthouse provides a giant, inflatable outdoor screen and perfectly placed to feature a downtown view.  SoundAndCinema.com


Austin's Birthday Bash | August 4th at Republic Square Park

Celebrate the grand re-opening of Republic Square with an all-day, family-friendly celebration! Oh, yeah, this event is also FREE! Live music, activities, yard games and so much more! RepublicSquare.org


Blues on the Green | August 8th at Zilker Park

What's the largest free concert series in Austin? Blues on the Green is back with The Oh Hellos with Bini Bini Banda. This is Austin's favorite summer tradition. Bring some blankets and maybe a flag so your friends can find you. Dogs are welcome, too! KGSR.com


Bat Fest | August 18th at South Congress Bridge

1.5 million Mexican free tailed bats will emerge from under the South Congress Bridge as the sun sets this August. There will be 2 stages with live music, art & craft vendors, food & drinks, bat costume contest, children and bat activities! VIP Tickets are available. Roadwayevents.com


City-Wide Garage Sale | August 18th & 19th at Palmer Events Center

Keeping Austin vintage since 1977. If you're a fan of gently used items then you should plan on attending this event. Did you know this event was created due to a gas shortage in 1977. Quesoff | August 26th at Mohawk

That's right! It's a Quesoff. This is the 7th annual competition and celebration of all things melted cheese! Competitors go head-to-head in four categories: Meaty, Spicy, Veggie and Wild Card! There is also a Best In Show Award. This event is unique to Austin and you can expect to see Mayor Steve Adler attend.  Quesoff is offering free entry with a donation of two canned goods or a $2 donation to the Central Texas Food Bank. Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival | August 26th at Fiesta Gardens

This event is on fire every year. Pun intended! High summer temperatures and spicy peppers really do make for the best combination. Don't forget to hydrate. Sample dozens of sauce, dine on local dishes and enjoy some live music. Cool off under the shade while your mouth does the same. AustinChronicle.com


Out of Bounds Comedy Festival | August 28th in Multiple Locations
