Pinterest is one of the major social media Platforms that isn’t given enough credit. It doesn’t have the numbers of Facebook and Instagram but is a powerhouse in its own right. Just for different reasons. This platform is pure visual entertainment that links directly to articles and ideas. Also links to shopping and specific stores. According to one article from HootSuite “Pinterest beats out Instagram as a primary social media platform influencing purchasing decisions for U.S. social media users.” That’s certainly impressive! Pinterest can be a fun and great resource for your real estate business. But first let’s go over some terminology!
Pins: This is the image or photo that is saved with a link to its original source. This is what you want to accomplish with your pins the traffic back to your site!
Boards: Since there are so many images on Pinterest, you can sort the pins to organizational boards to find them later. This is great for anyone since unlike Facebook you don’t lose the post or link, you are able to save it for however long you need.
Feed: This is the same as any other News Feed on other social media. It shows content you may be interested in by what you have already saved or liked. So sometimes this can limit what you see.
Promoted Pin: This is a pin that people can pay for to advertise their services or products. They pay a fee to make sure it is on your feed.
This platform has untapped potential to lead back to your business website. This website isn’t “just young people saving their ideas on the network: 68 percent of U.S. women between the ages of 25 and 54 use Pinterest, too. And while it’s true that the network does have more female users than male, 40 percent of new users are men.” Imagine the exposure you can get with Pinterest! Especially, as a real estate professional, with an unlimited supply to beautiful home pictures and resources. Those would make amazing pins!
Recently, a business page was introduced to the platform. Similar to Facebook you can branch off of your personal account to create one specifically for your business. Though you don’t need a personal account to make one. Simply, create an account as a business and set up the profile. Then like any other social media you choose a profile picture and add in the information you want people to see, this should be your business information and headshot or a logo that you would like to be associated with. And this profile can give you analytics of how well or bad your profile is doing. Social Media Examiner has a great article explaining this.
You really can’t lose, it can only help your business. Go on to Pinterest right now and create an account. It isn’t hard to do and looking at all the incredible pictures will give you inspiration and the ability to communicate with the people you are trying to sell houses to.
